I want you to come to your session feeling excited and confident!  Beforehand, I am available to talk via phone, text, email, or even in person to make sure we have the same creative vision of your session.  Once you are ready to book your session, I will invoice you for the retainer, which will secure your date and time.  I will then email you my Welcome Guide, a brief questionnaire to get to know you, and then contract, which you can sign digitally and print a copy for your records.  Your paid retainer amount will be applied to the session fee, and the remainder will be due on or before the date of the session.  You can pay via credit card, PayPal, cash, or check.   During our session planning, I will provide you with as many details as necessary for what to expect, how to be prepared, and answer any questions that you have.  We can discuss ideas, locations, outfits, props, etc.  Send me photos of your outfit choices and I can help you decide what to wear.  I come well-armed with ideas and information, but I always encourage you to bring your creativity as well.

My sessions are relaxed and casual, and most importantly FUN!  My goal is to showcase your personality and who you really are as a family, not just a bunch of stiff and forced-smiling poses.  We can focus on what makes your family special and unique, and have a great time doing so!  I start off by doing some family shots and then let you relax and get comfy, and the kids used to the camera.  I also take this time to see how you naturally interact as a family and will then tailor my session to making sure I capture those magic moments–those ones of mom brushing hair out of a child’s face, a soft kiss, inquisitive eyes looking at the flowers, and lots of sweet tickles–moments that are small but mean the most, especially after the moment is gone.  I’ll encourage you to just be yourselves and not pay attention to me as much.  I’m extremely patient and I am often able to get beautiful and natural shots, even if the kids aren’t “smiling” for the camera.

Sessions will last anywhere from 60-90 minutes so that I can capture a variety of shots.  I specialize in using the beauty of natural light and the surroundings, so our location may be in a park, a field, or a cool urban spot–but more importantly, a place where you and your family feel comfortable and which represents your style.  There will be plenty of time for a little snack or a regroup for the little ones as necessary.  I am obsessed with the CA sunset, so I will often choose about 2 hours before sunset to take advantage of this gorgeous, golden light.  I promise it will be worth it.

Please wear/bring clothes that you feel comfortable in, including a change of shoes if we need to walk to our location (I will prep you ahead of time for what to expect).  You want a style that is representative of who your family is, and several different clothing options are welcome to help us achieve the mood of your session.  Check out my Pinterest link –>  WHAT TO WEAR!   to see some different examples of coordinating colors and styles, along with great accessorizing ideas (I LOVE layers and textures!).  Keep in mind that everyone wearing all one color or matchy-matchy shirts doesn’t photograph as well as using similar colors and coordinating styles while making them slightly different.  Try to avoid too many prints and instead, choose one print and coordinate colors around that print.  Still need help?  Please feel free to send me pics via email or text and I can help point you in one direction.  Small snacks are great for the kids–but not sticky or ones that stain mouths; maybe a favorite treat for afterward (bribes are great!), water, and, when necessary, sunscreen/bug spray.  “Props” or personal items can be a great addition, too!  If your child has a special toy or blanket that you would like to incorporate into your photos, please bring it along.  If you’ve seen a specific prop/blanket/chair in my photos, ask me to bring it; I love personalizing sessions as much as possible!

After our session, I will choose the best images to retouch and edit.  Make sure to like my page on Facebook and follow me on Instagram and Twitter to keep a lookout for sneak peeks that I’ll post in the days following our session!  In approximately three weeks, I’ll post your edited photos in a private online photo gallery and send you an invite to view and share with your family and friends.  You can then download those photos directly to your computer along with a print release, and you are free to print the photos from your session at your convenience. Want to order prints from me?  I’ll offer you special pricing and can help guide you through the ordering process so that you can get everything that you want–prints, enlargements, canvasses, photo books, gifts, and even specialty items. Most of my packages include a PRINT CREDIT to use when ordering through my professional lab.  You are never obligated to order prints through me, but your print credit is a way of me saying THANK YOU for choosing me to be your photographer.  Print credits do expire 60 days after your gallery upload date, so please notify me of your choices as soon as possible.  Print credits cannot be redeemed for cash or discounted package pricing.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any further questions.  I am so excited to work with you!   — Cheri
